For example, the Emergency Medical Responder class prepares you for trauma related emergencies.

The Emergency Medical Responder Class (EMR)
This Emergency Medical Responder EMR course teaches applicants to become effective entry-level medical professionals who prepare patients for industrial, pre-hospital, first-responder settings. In fact, PHSA’s EMR program provides students with the hands-on skills and knowledge they need to manage medical and trauma-related emergencies until EMTs or paramedics arrive.
Upon course completion, students will be able to continue their education towards national certification as emergency medical responders through the National Registry of EMTs. The PHSA emergency medical responder course also meets and exceeds the National Standard Curriculum for Emergency Medical Responder developed by the United States Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Emergency Medical Responder Class Applicant Requirements:
- 18 years of age by course completion
- No criminal convictions
- Good moral character and strong motivation to serve
- Satisfy ORC 4765-12-07 requirements (Scope of Practice)
- High School Diploma or GED
The complete EMR course time is roughly 66 hours of didactic instruction. During this time, you will take part in 28 lessons developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Furthermore, PHSA combined their American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course into the EMR. As a result, you receive all the knowledge and skills you need to be an effective first responder.

This is a basic EMT course that gives aspiring medical workers the skills they need to become effective lifesavers. In fact, successful completion of this course opens up opportunities to receive full certification. Most notably, graduates of the course become eligible to participate in the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination. These exams are another requirement of EMT state certification.
ACLS Certification Course
This is an advanced educational course that uses a multifaceted approach to teaching medical safety skills. In fact, students of this course will learn many important skills including the intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), and acute dysrhythmia; systems of care, immediate post-cardiac arrest, stroke, recognition, and team dynamics and communication.
PALS Certification Course
This certification course teaches applicants basic life support skills through a series of training videos and pediatric emergency simulations. As a result, students will master various medical skills: pediatric assessment, effective resuscitation, team dynamics, and PALS treatment algorithms.
CPR Certification Course

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Course
This course focuses on basic life support and single-rescuer skills in both pre-hospital and in-facility situations. This course is also a great addition to the aforementioned CPR course, as it involves the execution of your CPR skills.
